New book chapter (2): War on terror and Muslim opinion

The other new book that’s out is Anne Stensvold’s Western Balkans: The Religious Dimension (Oslo: Sypress, 2009). This is a collection of four lengthy studies by my colleagues in the Religion and nationalism in the Western Balkans project, which Anne initiated and was in charge of.

Ingrid Vik writes on religious peace-making efforts in the region, and Anne Ross Solberg on the activities of Islamic groups from Turkey, while Cecilie Endresen discusses inter-religious relations in Shkodra.

My own lenghty contribution, “The war on terror and Muslim opinion-making in Bosnia” (Moe 2009), is a survey of the Bosnian Islamic press (and parts of the secular press) in the first years after 9/11. I originally conceived this paper in 2002, wrote it in January 2005, and have only tinkered with it since – the last updates were added in spring 2008, I think, so the references to fugitive war criminals since arrested and Guantanamo inmates since released are already a bit dated. This is mainly extensive documentation of Muslim discourses on terrorism and the war on terror in a turbulent period.
